Yes, by nature moms are the only people who can produce milk, but now fathers can breastfeed, too. New dad Maxamillian Kendall Neubauer is going viral on Facebook for breastfeeding his newborn before his wife was able to due to her C-section complications.
The Wisconsin local was able to feed his little girl thanks to the nurses' Supplemental Nursing System (SNS), according to The Bump. Neaubauer wrote about his experience on Love What Matters where he explained, “The Nursing staff were giggling and jumping for joy. So, I got a nipple shield with a syringe tube and hit the road running. Nurse helped a lot. I mean I’ve never breastfed or even thought in a thousand years I would. I was the first to breastfeed [my] baby!”
He continued to explain the mixed reactions from his family—his mother-in-law shook her head and laughed while his great grandpa, who he describes as old school, “looked at him funny” but came around in the end.
Overall, Neubauer was over-the-moon about the experience writing on Love What Matters, “I felt a connection the minute I saw my little girl. I got to hold her and help her get [used] to breastfeeding I hope. I really did it just to be a good dad and be a hero for the nursing staff because they are superheroes. You couldn’t ask for anyone better. Don’t forget those moms though, I did it for them too.”
Just like the nursing staff and Neubauer’s family, Facebook users are rallying behind the new dad, supporting his decision to take matters into his own hands and breastfeed his daughter:
Neubauer’s post had its fair share of critics as you would expect from Facebook, but the feedback seemed to be more positive than negative. We support this dad for being present and attentive to his child while not being afraid or embarrassed to try something that strays from social norms. We have a feeling Neubauer is already such an amazing dad!
