Dole Whip Spoonable Smoothie Bowls

We love making smoothie bowls for breakfast. Done right, they're a great way to start the day with a healthy, low-calorie meal, and they're just so darn pretty.

But they also take a little pre-planning and prep. To help with that, Dole has unveiled two new additions to their line of açai bowls, and we couldn't be more excited! They're called Spoonable Smoothies (to differentiate them from their açai-based brethren), and they come in two flavors: one of which is Strawberry-Banana.

But the one that has us most excited is the other flavor. Based on the iconic Dole Whip soft serve that Disney fans have been loving since 1986, Dole's newest flavor is Pineapple Banana, and we can't wait to get our hands on it, and see just how it compares!

As breakfast foods go, these are pretty healthy, as well. The Pineapple-Banana flavor has 180 calories, 4g of fat (1.5g are saturated), 3g of protein, and while it's got 19g of sugar, most of that is natural sugar from the fruit: Only 6g are added. The Strawberry-Banana version has 170 calories, 4g of fat (1.5g are saturated), 16g of sugar (though 8g of that is added), and 3g of protein.

Since these smoothies are a little low in protein, we recommend pairing them with another form or protein to boost satiety. You could stir in some chia seeds or top your smoothie bowl with a sprinkle of granola, or even make a hard boiled egg. It’s also worth mentioning that both flavors smoothie bowls contain almond butter, so be aware if you have a nut allergy.

The smoothies thaw in 35-40 minutes on the counter, or in 30 seconds by microwave. Both are just $3.59, and will be available this spring at Ingle's Market, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, Giant Eagle, Giant, Price Chopper, Albertsons Safeway Portland, and more.
