One Wisconsin family got an unwelcome surprise after their latest outing to McDonald’s.
Scot Dymond of Columbus, Wisc., took to a community Facebook group to express his anger after he claimed to have found his four-year-old son playing with a sharp razor blade—which he says his son initially mistook for a toy—that came out of his McDonald’s Happy Meal.
Dymond says he went back to the McDonald’s location, where the on-duty manager allegedly offered him a free meal in response to the situation. “Are you kidding me? My [child] could have sliced his arm open or a finger off!” he wrote in the group.
In an interview with local news station WMTV, Dymond added: “I was angry. I was upset. I don’t want a meal. I want my kid to be safe and everyone else’s kids to be safe.”
WMTV added that the Columbus Police Department investigated the situation and discovered that the metal blade was part of a cleaning tool used at the fast food location, and likely fell off a shelf and into open Happy Meal boxes. Police do not believe it was a result of malicious intent, according to the outlet.
In a statement to PEOPLE, McDonald’s owner/operator Dion Conn says: “The safety and security of our customers is a top priority. We are working with local law enforcement to investigate this claim.”
